6 types of gown Silhouette you should know

All brides want to be at her prettiest state during their wedding day; and the perfect wedding gown plays a huge part to it. Yet, finding that perfect wedding gown can be quite a tiring and pressurizing journey. Therefore, before starting on the search for your dream gown it will be recommended to do a little research.  It is good to know what types of gowns are there in the market and what kind of gown silhouette (shape) will look best on you. Generally, there are 6 types of wedding gown silhouettes.

1. The Trumpet

While it is often mistaken as “The Mermaid” gown, trumpet silhouettes are not quite the same. Trumpet silhouette gowns have its skirting flaring out just below the hips; creating a trumpet like shape without being extra bulky or heavy. Such silhouette is suitable for slender and tall brides who want comfort in walking around in a gown.

A body hugging silhouette. Sheath gowns are ideal for both tall and petite brides with lean figures. It helps petite brides appear taller due to its elongating nature.

3. The Mermaid

Like the sheath gowns, the mermaid silhouette contours the body from the chest to the knee, then flaring out to the hem. It is more body fitting than the trumpet, which highlights every curves of the bride. Such daring cut is ideal for slender or lean figures.

4. The Empire Line

A waistline cut just under the bust; typically with a low neckline. The empire line silhouette gown gives a high-waist appearance. Such gown shape is suitable for most body figures, but is exceptionally suitable for pear-shaped figure. Moreover, an empire line gown is recommended for pregnant brides as the fluidity of the gown can conceal baby bump. 

5. The A-line

A gown silhouette that widens from bust to hem, skimming past the waist, which looks similar to the appearance of the capital letter A. The A-line is a wonderful shape for all types of figures, and it will look even better on brides with larger burst. The skirt of the a-line gown is able to hide broad hips and create an illusion of curves.

6. The Ballgown

As compared to the A-line and empire line silhouettes, the ballgown silhouette has a fitted bodice and a full bell shape skirt. Again, this type of gowns can suit most body figures; however, it is ideal for brides with either slender or pear-shaped figures. Also, such type of gown is not recommended for brides who are not so tall as they might not be able to balance the size of the skirt.
